In September, Mr. Moncelet (5th grade) and Mr. Giot (6th grade) decided to embark on a fun and innovative project that would give students opportunity to work together on their geometrical skills.
After a few workshops on Math class time, students were ready to apply their skills to the drawing of giant geometric shapes on the blacktop. On Monday November 13 and Tuesday November 14, the two groups (6B/5B on Monday and 6A/5A on Tuesday) were tracing giant 2-meter diameter shapes on the blacktop, using chalk and ropes for measurement.
The next exciting event in the project will occur in two weeks with the design of 10-meter diameter shapes. This time, students will use the sands of Pacific Beach and La Jolla Shores as their playground. Come support them, please!
A fun event is coming up soon… See if you can guess from the charade, whose clues will be published one by one in the next coming days/weeks.
Clue #1: My first is the note that follows SO
Your next clue will come on Monday!
Enjoy.
Every week, students gather in the Robotics Elective with Mr. Tregouet. In the trimester 1 “Robotics Foundation” elective, students are using computer science and coding skills to create and program robots (WeDo). This is a fantastic way to understand the use of applied mathematics and computational science, and get a foothold in the engineering world.
The students enrolled in the History/Geography French elective shared with their peers an insight of the EUSTORY project they are working on with German students from the German Pacific School at forum time.
Students were then challenged with a quizz on their knowledge about WW1, as November 11, 2017 will celebrate the 99th anniversary date of the end of WW1.

The JMUN Middle School club is in full swing now, with students actively researching the country they have been assigned with. Students also know on which committee they are. The hard work and dedication they are putting into their efforts will pay off at the San Diego Regional Conference in May 2018!
