Playing the handbells combines simplicity and challenges at the same time. It supports auditory skills development such as sound awareness and pitch perception, stimulates the brain and builds up memory, including musical memory. In Early Childhood education handbells are often used to enhance gross coordination skills development. But mostly it is fun!
Our Pk1 students focused on the body. They started by reading “la promenade de Flaubert”: During a stroll, the wind blows so hard that Flaubert accessories and body parts fly away! He is able to find everything back, though he might just look a bit different. The children love the story
Our 3 classes built Flaubert out of paper, blew on him, put him back together, developing body parts language and space awareness.
You probably saw some of the work derived from the theme in the classrooms. Check the video made by Alexandra in PK1: the students built a ‘child life size” patient. They then transformed in surgeon and operated on different body parts.
SDFAS will participate in the 60th La Jolla Christmas Parade & Holiday Festival with a Christmas float reflecting our program values. We will have a strong representation with 40 students and their families. Don’t hesitate to join us; the parade will start at 1:30 P.M from the corner of Girard Avenue & Kline Street.
