On January 18, 2018, we went to the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park, in order to film the three museum scenes which are key elements of the script of the Eustory movie we are making.
The day was busy for the camera operator, the actresses, the museum staff and the school staff. The two characters in the story line, Angelique and Friederike, had to act several times and re do the different scenes for the best visual result possible, listening carefully to Alexandra, our camera operator.
Enjoy a glimpse of the filming!
Thank you to the Director of the Museum, the curator, the Museum staff for their kindness in welcoming us! Thank you, Alexandra, for filming!
Activities in class are designed to meet students’ needs based on their level.
We were happy to welcome a new student in 8th grade recently: Sonny is a Spanish beginner. Therefore the content and activities are designed to cover the material for Spanish level one in order to provide him with strong foundations in the language.
Sonny worked with the verb “tener”, body parts and adjectives to describe body parts. Activities are meant to be interesting an interactive when possible. For example, sonny had to read a paragraph that contained the description of a monster (which cover the verb “tener, body parts and adjectives). Then, he had to match it with the image. As a follow up, Sonny had to create a monster based on the description provided in the paragraph.
While Sonny was designing his beautiful mural on the classroom wall, the advanced students who are native language speakers were also challenged to work at their level. Spanish fluent speakers have been working on the theme Health Care and Medicine, and they have learned about the illnesses that are affecting Latino America. They explored their own health system, and learned about alternative health approaches such as the “curanderos” healers. Students are also learning on relevant topics such as the evolution of flu viruses and their impact in places such as Spain, México and the United States.

This month, 7th graders are being involved in a pen pal program with a school in Haiti, as part of the “Edeline Project”.
Thanks to Stephanie Hoffman, a La Jolla physiotherapist, the project came to my attention and we decided to get the students of both schools in contact, since they are all French speakers. We worked in class on the history and geography of Haiti and learned about Edeline’s ordeals during the earthquake of 2010, when she was studying to become a teacher, how it has inspired her to launch the Edeline Initiative, and to help the children of her country.
Our letters are going to Haiti this week and we can’t wait for the responses! Please visit the Edeline Project website to learn more about their wonderful work: www.projectedeline.com

This Friday January 12, 2018, students from the JMUN club had the opportunity to welcome 20 delegates from the San Diego Diplomacy Council on campus. This was a unique chance to discuss with international citizens about topics in relation with topics and issues they do explore within the scope of the JMUN club experience.
Thank you to Ms. Aseltine and the students, for their carefully and deep questions! Thank you to Ms. Addo and Mr. Baron for their presence and help, and thank you to our visitors, whom we were delighted to welcome at SDFAS!
On December 15, 2017, the 6th graders enjoyed a Nutcracker performance at a Downtown San Diego Theater. They were supporting one of their classmate, who was on stage dancing and performing. Thank you to their 6th grade teachers, Ms. Reagan and Ms. Bunod, for organizing this ever enjoyable and beautiful show!
