During this first class, we talked about the safety rules. A printed copy of the main safety guidelines went home with your children. Make sure you read them again with your child at home. Safety is the priority while handling needles, scissors… and sewing machines.
We have started today to practice hand stitches on a sample. We will start as a first project with the creation of a pin cushion that they will use during all classes moving forward. This might take 1 or 2 more sessions.
We will work also on building a pin holder. For that, If you have any old shirts that you are not wearing anymore, please bring it back next week so that we can use this old fabric to make their own book of needles. If you don’t have any, no worries I will bring some extra.
We also talked also about future projects such as crafting an apron from an old pair of jeans, make a “Save-My-T-Shirt Pillow”. Same principle as above: if your child has an old jean and an old favorite T-Shirt that is too small or accidentally stained, please have your child bringing it to next class. They will turn them into a nice apron and into a huggable pillow ! It is a fun and clever way for kids to recycle.
Last point, they left the class with a folder containing the instructions to make their pin cushion, a sample of their first stitching and the safety guidelines. Make sure they bring it next Monday.
