ASA Mathematical Problem Solving

By Valérie Asensio

This week in the Mathematical Problem Solving Activity children learned how to name unknown numbers (also known as “pre-algebra”!).  And they played “four 4s”, in which they tried to make different numbers using exactly four 4s and any mathematical operations.  Here’s a photo of the solutions they found.

ASA Mathematical Problem Solving

By Valérie Asensio

Last week in the Mathematical Problem Solving Activity children learned to draw some 3D shapes, including cubes, tetrahedra, octahedra and cuboctahedra. Then they decided that a cube could be called a hexahedron! Here’s the worksheet, and some of the drawings students made on the white board (see the attached photo).

ASA elab-LEGO

By Valérie Asensio

Bravo Antoine !

By Valérie Asensio

ASA Tricot Crochet Broderie on Tuesday for 3-8th grade with Marie – Children started this activity by learning basic stitches in Knitting: from Garter to Purl stitches, cast on and off and finished off by switching yarn color. They also learned basic Crochet (single crochet) which was usually not the girl’s favorite activity. For the embroidery projects, they realized diverse assignments such as ornaments, an embroidered heart, cards and other decorations meant to be used for the holidays. Acquired skills: two basic stitches (the running stitch and the blanket stitch).
