COVID-19 Update #15

Dear SDFAS Community,

As always, we hope this message finds you, your family, your loved ones and friends in good health and living peacefully as the ongoing sheltering-in-place order continues.

Preparations for Returning to Campus

The leadership of the school continues to work hard on plans for re-opening the campus with the health and safety of our community in mind. Campus re-opening plans are being developed using the following principles:

•First priority is the health and safety of students, faculty and families

•Second priority is delivering an exceptional bilingual program

•Third priority is maintaining transparency in communication

•Fourth priority is maintaining and building our community in these exceptional times

The school  will follow emerging guidelines for safe re-opening. We fully anticipate that this will occur in late August at latest, though we do remain hopeful that it might be possible before the end of this school year.  We are monitoring potential guidelines, as re-opening planning and experience develops across California, the US and the rest of the world. We remain committed to returning to school on campus as soon as we can safely do so.  And we remain committed to delivering the best educational experience available in San Diego to your children in this extraordinary period.

Summer Camps

The school is continuing its planning for a remote summer camp program, and possibly other offerings as well, for interested families. More information will follow soon.

Virtual Gala

As you know, from May 15th – 17th, we will host our first ever virtual Gala benefiting the Fund for the Future, to further enhance professional development and financial aid. More information will follow from the development office as the date approaches!

Relaunch of Echo Info

The school’s weekly newsletter Echo Info was relaunched this past Friday. It is your “go to” reference for information about current and upcoming school-related events and happenings. There are some wonderful remote learning stories and videos – I highly recommend you take a look.

Virtual Happy Half-Hours with the Head of School

Parents are invited over the next two weeks, one session offered per grade level, to join Mark by Zoom for thirty minutes with your favorite drink. No need to RSVP – just mark your calendar and join Mark’s Zoom room using the Zoom password for that particular week. Please refer to this past Friday’s Echo Info for the schedule and link to Mark’s Zoom room.
