Recap of Family Hike/Walk #2

Last Saturday over 40 parents, kids (and dogs!) attended our second SDFAS Family Hike /Walk along the historic La Jolla Coastal Walk Trail. Our hikes are becoming a great way to meet new friends in the SDFAS community and enjoy the beautiful surroundings San Diego has to offer at the same time! Given the overwhelming success of our two hikes so far we have decided to organize monthly hikes throughout the summer. Here are the dates of our next two kid and dog-friendly hikes:
June 12th: Crest Canyon Open Space Preserve Loop Trail. This beautiful and scenic trail is 2.1 miles and good for all skill levels. Dogs on a leash are welcome too.

2250 Del Mar Heights Rd.
San Diego, CA 92130

July 17th: Batiquitos Lagoon. This wide, flat four-mile lagoon trail is great for little walkers, dogs, and strollers. More of a flat walk than a hike, it’s a little more than 3 miles roundtrip and a perfect first “hike” for tots. For a shorter walk, we may start at the parking lot on Batiquitos Road, just past Shoreline Lane.

73880 Gabbiano Ln.
Carlsbad, CA 92008

As a final project, the 8th-graders had to create a scenography of one of the Acts of Cyrano de Bergerac after studying the play and reflecting on its interpretations since its creation. The idea was to create a visual interpretation of the story through a theme that resonated with them. The Mise en Boite, playing on the words Mise en Scene, had to fit in a box (boite) and represent all the characters of the chosen scene.

Students then had to write an explanation of their stylistic choices compared to the original dramatic indications in the play. They also recorded themselves reading their chosen scene while integrating sound effects matching their interpretation.

The result is nothing less than breathtaking! Good job 8th-graders! Your creativity; understanding of the play and the characters, and your knowledge of contemporary culture were remarkable.

Please Return All Library Books

Message from the school librarian: Many of the books that were checked out by your children last year–before the lockdown–have NOT been returned. I would like to have them returned and shelved before the end of the school year. Could you please check your bookshelves, nightstands, car trunks, school bags, etc, and return all items marked with the school address and bearing a barcode sticker that looks like the SDFAS one below.
