Family Hike/Walk #3
Our hikes are becoming a great way to meet new friends in the SDFAS community and enjoy the beautiful surroundings San Diego has to offer at the same time! Given the overwhelming success of our two hikes so far we have decided to organize monthly hikes throughout the summer. Here is the date and location of our next kid and dog-friendly hike:
June 12th: Crest Canyon Open Space Preserve Loop Trail. This beautiful and scenic trail is 2.1 miles and good for all skill levels. Dogs on a leash are welcome too.
2250 Del Mar Heights Rd.
San Diego, CA 92130
Please register here.
Charity Art Exhibit
- When: June 10
- Where: Main entrance of SDFAS
Our Middle School French-Sciences teacher, Julie Ducloux spent 10 years in Columbia. During her time there she became involved with the Fondation Casa Amariya, an organization that helps the community in countless ways including providing after-school activities for children.
Colombia is struggling with the Covid pandemic and needs our community’s support. With the help of SDFAS Development Director, Veronique Rahmati Director, and Room Parents Natalia Bertran and Stephanie Labbé, Julie plans to sell her photography to raise money for the Fondation Casa Amariya.
The event will be held on June 10 at the main entrance of the school. Please attend this wonderful event and take a beautiful photograph home with you — see some of Julie’s great work below. To put things in context: if our community purchases Julie’s art it can help another community less fortunate than ours — $50 for example can feed a family of four for one month!
If you would like to learn more about Fondation Casa Amariya please click here to view a short presentation that Julie prepared.
Please note: There is a $20 minimum purchase per photograph.
Annual SDFAS Field Day
- When: Tuesday, June 15th, 12:45 pm – 2:45 pm
- Where: SDFAS Field and Blacktop
- Who: Kindergarten – 8th Grade Students
“Field Day” is one of the most anticipated events and marks the end of the school year and the beginning of summer!
Students will compete by grade, A class vs B class, and participate in epic friendly competitions, fun games, and silly relay races! Games include, “dizzy bat relay,” “SDFAS Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course,” “Limbo,” “Tug-o-Peace”, “Water Balloon Toss,” and many more!
For all “A” classes, please wear a RED t-shirt, and for all “B” classes please wear a BLUE t-shirt. (It does not need to be a school-issued t-shirt).
Students will be competing against their own grade at each game station, but also collectively as a school, “A Class vs B Class”! Who will win this year?!
- Please remember that ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN PERSONAL WATER BOTTLE to Field Day!
- Please also note that this year’s Field Day is being organized in accordance with COVID safety measures and social distancing. Students must wear their masks and stay with their class at all times.
Lastly, a final important reminder: Students are expected to come to Field Day with a joyous, playful attitude. Laughter and giggling will be strictly enforced — win OR lose. Points will be given at random to teams having the most fun. Students who fail to comply with these rudimentary expectations will be sent to “Field Day Headquarters” until they are ready to conform to Field Day protocol.
Science Fair Update!
**In order to give students more time to finish their experiments and so as to ensure the event is well organized, the Science Fair will take place on the week of June 9th.** More Information
We are hosting our annual school science fair on June 9th. During these days, we will have student display boards set up on campus, and we will also have a virtual science fair for students who wish to share slide presentations about their experiments. Seventh graders will be presenting their projects. Participation for all other grades is optional. Science fair is an opportunity for students to use research and experimentation to explore topics of interest. As such, we invite and encourage all interested students to develop and share a science project. Students who participate will conduct an experiment and gather data in a journal. They will then compile their information into a slide presentation and/or display board. For safety purposes, experiments must be conducted off-campus. As such, parents and guardians are responsible for supervising and procuring materials. We would like students to make their own discoveries, so we encourage them to work as independently as possible. SDFAS community members will have the opportunity to look at all submitted projects, either virtually or in person. If you have questions, please contact Andrew Ericson, firstname.lastname@example.org.
