Magnus App updates are in the works to include touch ID/Face recognition so the parents do not have to type out their username and password every time! Please do not delete/uninstall the current version of the Magnus Health Mobile App unless specifically instructed to do so by Anna Forester, RN, or a Magnus Health Service Representative in relation to a specific support ticket. The 9/30 Magnus Health Mobile App update has been flagged for review by the Apple and Google Play stores due to mention of COVID-19 in the symptom assessment feature. Magnus is working with both app stores to resolve the issue, but in the interim Android users may receive a notification from Google Play giving them the option to remove the app from their device. Please keep and continue using the current version of the app until the new release is published in the Apple and Google Play Stores in the coming days. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Download Magnus Health Screening App

**URGENT Action Needed!**For the parents who have not downloaded the Magnus app, please do so as soon as possible and make sure that you are filling out this prescreening for your student(s) every morning before dropping them off at school. See instructions below. This helps us to move more efficiently in the morning and will help our students get to class on time. Your patience is appreciated as we continue to navigate through this pandemic together and keep our students on campus.

If you are having trouble with the app please contact the school nurse, Anna Forester at : nurse@sdfrenchschool.org.

Instructions to install Magnus App For the upcoming school year, parents will use the Magnus Health Mobile App to complete a daily COVID-19 screening assessment for each SDFAS student from a smartphone in just a few clicks. This screening will need to be done every morning, at home, no later than 7:30 am, before departure for school. On August 27, 2020, parents will be able to set up a Magnus Health account via FACTS. After activating your Magnus Health account via FACTS you will install the Magnus Health Mobile App on your smartphone.  To log in for the first time please follow the instructions below:

  1. Log into your FACTS account
  2. Go to the Family Portal
  3. Under the “Student Tab” Go to “Medical”
  4. Click on Magnus Login button
  5. Hover over your name within Magnus (top left of screen) and choose Change Credentials
  6. Enter a Username & Password that only you know and will remember. This should be the same username & password you use for FACTS
  7. You will see this phrase daily to remind you to complete your Covid-19 screening.
  8. Download the “Magnus Mobile V2” App from the Apple Store or the Google Play store, and log in using your username & password.

At the completion of this initial process, you will be able to download the Magnus Mobile App for free on your smartphone and log in through the app to complete the screening assessment each morning. If you need additional help, you can always reference the parent tutorial. You will access the screening via the button titled “COVID-19.” We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this daily screening as it will be an imperative function of our safety protocols. Upon completion of the quick survey each morning, you will receive a message for the student’s attendance giving instructions for that day.  If your child arrives at school and the screening has not been completed, we will ask that you complete it before the student exits the vehicle. A parent must be the one to fill this out. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep the school operational during this pandemic.  Use of this App will help us create the safest possible environment for your children, our faculty, and staff.  For any technical issues with the mobile app such as login problems, or problems completing the screening please contact customer support at Magnus Health SMR by phone at 877.461.6831 or by email at service@magnushealthportal.com.

Parent-teacher conferences
October 12th through October 15th
Details to follow

What have we done this week in Preschool?

PK0: This week we explored new obstacles in the classroom: we walked, crawled, slithered on the benches. We read a story about a book and we used coffee grinds to make the cover for our book.

PK1: Pk1s are finishing their little “book of traces” using different objects from the class. We are starting this week with a new theme: COLORS using the book “Pop mange de toutes les couleurs”. We are working on recognizing our initials and the initials of our friends.

PK2: This week, we continue our discussions about feelings and emotions. We review numbers and quantities. We reinforce our fine motor skills: vertical lines…

Distance Learning: In pre-writing, our Pk1s have been painting to leave traces, we will make a “book of traces” from those experiences. Our Pk2s are working on vertical lines after observing them and creating them in the weeks before, we are now tracing them. Like in the classrooms, we have focused on emotions, identify them on faces and in ourselves. In Maths our Pk1s are focusing on the number and quantity 1 as opposed to a lot, while our Pk2s are starting to review numbers 1,2,3. Our Pk1 and 2s have worked a lot on letters that write their names and we will continue this week and beyond.

Kindergarten

For questions about Kindergarten, please contact Babeth Esterly, besterly@sdfrenchschool.org and Sophie Ricouard, sricouard@sdfrenchschool.org.

What have we done this week in Kindergarten?

This week, we have discovered a new alpha friend, “monsieur o “. We have created his house by putting words that contain the sound [o] in it and we started learning a new song for that sound.

Elementary School

For questions about Elementary School, please contact Francis Carlier, fcarlier@sdfrenchschool.org.

Diagnostic Assessments

Students are completing their “diagnostic” assessments. They allow teachers to have a clearer idea of the needs of the class as a group, but also to grasp individual strengths and challenges. As a result, specific programs (generally referred to as the Learning Center) are developed to meet these needs. This year, due to the constraints of Covid, we will not be able to have additional teachers helping other students from other classes. The main teachers will therefore differentiate the ways of approaching the same concept, offer manipulative activities specific to each child and carefully monitor each child’s progress. More information will be shared with families during the Parents/Teachers Conferences.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences
October 8th through October 15th

These conferences establish an essential dialogue between families and teachers with the sole goal of the children’s success. The teachers will give feedback on the start of the school year, on upcoming projects and, when appropriate, the academic support or challenge programs. Parents will be able to give feedback on what they observe at home, how their child is feeling after this month and a half of school.
The conferences are organized with the two teachers at the same time and last about twenty minutes.
This year, these conferences will take place by Zoom. The teachers will send you a link to register for time slots and the Zoom link for the meeting.

School Supplies

SDFAS is happy to partner with School Tool Box, for Grades 1 through 8, a service that allows you to do school supply shopping from home! Students will receive quality, name brand supplies that match their school supply list shipped directly home. Not only that, one meal is donated to Feed My Starving Children for every box ordered. It’s easy, visit School Tool Box, select your child’s grade, remove any items you already have, and purchase the rest.
