By Admissions

Sidonie and Nolwenn in the journalism elective decided to interview Mr. G, to know more about him.

1.Hello Mr.G  we have some questions for you. What is your favorite subject in school?

Literature.  I love discovering classic books over and over again with the students each year, hearing their insights and impressions on the material, and doing creative projects about the books together.

2.What do you like the most about your job?

The students.  I love working with the students.  There is so much great energy every day, so much joy, so much discovery.  Nothing else is quite like it.

3.What is your favorite quote and why?

“Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we’ll die.”  I heard it first in a Dave Matthews song when I was a teenager, but it turns out it’s a variation on a biblical quote.  Anyway, it reminds us to cherish the moment and live fully, because we never know when it will be taken away.

4.What are your hobbies?

Sports.  I’m an avid golfer, and I love playing tennis and baseball as well.

5.Do you play any sports?

Yes, and I am currently working toward earning my PGA card as a golfer so that I can teach in the summertime.  I have played since I was very young, and I love it.

6.What is your favorite types of essays?

That depends.  I like opinion pieces, because I like hearing students’ views on everything from current events to literature.

7.If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and why?

I haven’t played Saint Andrews yet in Scotland.  So that’s the next stop on my travel list.

8.What type of books do you like to read?

The kinds of books that are actually sports magazines.

9.What is the hard part about being a teacher?

The hardest part?  Having to bring such a tremendous level of energy to every class, every day.  Some  days, you’re just tired.  But in this profession, you can’t be.

10.How long have you been at SDFAS?

8 years?  9 years?  I don’t remember, I haven’t had my coffee yet.
