Science Field Trip 6th and 7th grades: Rady’s Children Hospital

By Bénédicte Brouder

On Wednesday March 15, the 6th and 7th graders had the opportunity to visit Rady’s Children Hospital. Rady’s Children Hospital is one of SDFAS partner charity, which SDFAS sent a donation to from funds collected at the Jog-a-Thon. This donation went to the 3-D printing program of Rady’s Children Hospital.

Students were able to see how 3-D heart models are created and help surgeons operate children with complex heart defects. In articulation with the science curriculum and their unit about the heart, this field trip enabled students to experience a direct application of their science knowledge. It was also very rewarding for them to see how their efforts in the Jog-a-Thon fundraising event translate into concrete action.

We would like to thank one of our parents, Mrs. Guckian, for her much appreciated help to make this field trip happen!
