Middle school student delegates elections took place on September 28, 2017 .

Elections were carefully prepared by classes in their advisory period under the leadership of their advisor/main teacher. This year, we insisted on better formalizing their mission with an approach “for the Students, by the Students”. An authentic engagement and understanding of duties and rights is paramount in order to develop citizenship responsibility in adolescent years.

Here are the duties of student delegates:

What are the responsibilities of a student delegate?

Be the voice of students

Ø  Represent the entire class in a positive manner

Ø  Attend/represent class and school councils

Ø  Represent the school when student visitors come (Ambassadors)

Be a community builder

Ø  Listen to peers

Ø  Be attentive to others’ well-being and to group cohesion

Ø  Help resolve issues and conflicts, with help of advisor/teacher

Ø  Report to advisor/main teacher discretely and confidentially in order to get adults’ help and support

Demonstrate leadership

Ø  Actively engage classmates with the help of the advisor teacher for the preparation of the class councils/ school councils (see advisory program and sessions reserved for class council preparation)

Ø  Report to peers after class councils/ school councils, and use feedback as a positive and effective way to improve collective growth of class and middle school community

What should the student delegates accomplish?

Ø  Help the entire class and also individual students.

Ø  Promote implementation of changes that benefit the community

Ø  Participate in community-wide actions proposed by committees

What qualities should a student delegate possess?

Ø  Passionate and determined

Ø  Open-minded and accepting

Ø  Caring, kind, good listener

Ø  Accepting

Ø  Responsible, punctual

Ø  Impartial

Ø  Trustworthy
